About Team Why We Ride

Team Why We Ride: Make a Mark, Inspire Change, Leave a Legacy, Support our commitment to cycle over 200 + miles in 3 days from Philadelphia Pennsylvania to Ocean City Maryland.

We ride to help young women under the age of 40 fight and survive breast cancer.

The members of “Team Why We Ride” are not professional cyclists, but regular people like you that have come together for one purpose…to help more young women survive breast cancer.

We are all proud that each year the Team Why We Ride grows with additional new riders. By the end of our long, strenuous, challenging, and at times dangerous ride, we are a united family. Through the team’s grass roots efforts, we raise awareness in our communities of the benefits of early diagnosis and more aggressive treatment plans for young women diagnosed with breast cancer. Each year, we witness these brave young women display courage and endurance not only in their daily battles but also when they join us for the YSC Ride. It fills our lives with inspiration and perspective to face other life challenges together.

Each of us has been touched by different people in our lives affected with this horrible disease and inspired by the beautiful stories of survival. When you meet each of our team members, you can ask them why do you ride? And you will hear a wide variety of moving inspirational reasons. :

This year, in 2015, we dedicate the team’s ride to brave young women currently fighting the disease, young women who lost the battle bravely, and young women we are joyous to know as survivors – they are each our inspiration:

Each of us has been touched by different people in our lives affected with this horrible disease and inspired by the beautiful stories of survival. When you meet each of our team members, you can ask them why do you ride? And you will hear a wide variety of moving inspirational reasons. : This year, in 2015, we dedicate the team’s ride to brave young women currently fighting the disease, young women who lost the battle bravely, and young women we are joyous to know as survivors – they are each our inspiration: * Ishiuan Hargrove: mother of 2; diagnosed with stage 4.

* Tiffany Nardella: young fighter overcoming breast cancer.

* Jamie Pleva: diagnosed at a very young age and today a survivor, married and mother of twins.

* Welcome Michelle Correnti, Nidhi Kapila and Gena Hortz: brave fighters riding for the first time this year. We ride with you every mile of the journey.
* We ride in memory of a young cousin lost to breast cancer – Tedra who has inspired an entire family to stand up to Cancer.

* We ride inspired by our Team Why We Ride Angels: Kristen Martinez, 38 yrs old and Kayla Falcon, 25 years old -- both having lost the battle too soon.

* We ride for Yamilett – Kayla’s 4 year old daughter and for her family. To help her heal and understand as she grows up how many people her mother touched. We ride for her future and families like hers who need our support.

Our team has grown to over 40 cyclists and last year alone with your donation we raised more than $95,000. This year our goal is to surpass $100K, please select your favorite cyclist and make your tax deductible donation.

Each dollar given makes a difference and goes towards:

$25 could fund YSC materials at three healthcare providers’ offices.
$100 could provide a Newly Diagnosed Navigator to six women when they need it most.
$250 could allow us to train four survivors to serve as peer supporters.
$500 could fund a Young Empowered Survivor (YES) educational program.
$1,200 could pay for two young women to travel to our annual conference for young women affected by breast cancer.

YSC Tour de Pink is much more than just a bike ride, it’s a chance to honor survivors, raise awareness and support important programs for young women affected by breast cancer.

We hope we can count on you to help us reach our fundraising goal!
